This recipe shows how to make Jamaican Sorrel wine. Drink with rum cake at Christmas time, weddings or for any festive occasion in Jamaica and other Caribbean Countries.
You will need :
2 packets 4 1/2 ounces sorrel
Shredded Ginger to taste (If you are using Jamaican grown ginger you only need a few small pieces) about 1 1/2 Lbs if buying in the large Imported ones that’s not so strong. I used about one and a half pounds of
Nutmeg Mace, few pieces (Optional)
1 cup rice
Few pieces Cinnamon sticks
Sugar to taste.
In a large pot add about one and a half gallons of water, add all ingredients except the sugar. Set on fire to boil for about half an hour. Cool and sweeten to taste. The wine can be bottled and put away for a few days before usage. Refrigerate after two days. This is used in Jamaica especially at Christmas time. In the United States we use during Thanksgiving and at Christmas but we sometimes make sorrel, just because we want a taste. Enjoy.
